Then in 2003, an exciting new chapter began for North American after it was purchased by an international investment group. Just three years later, on November 22nd, 2006, North American Energy Partners came into existence after the company was officially listed on both the New York and Toronto Stock Exchanges under NOA.
In the years that followed, North American continued to participate in a number of major infrastructure projects.
Our divisions helped construct the Richmond Speed Skating Oval for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics andRipley’s Aquarium of Canada, which is located at the base of Toronto’s iconic CN Tower.
We also helped install 160-kilometres of the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion through Jasper National Park and Mount Robson Provincial Park, as well as the Burgess Shale UNESCO World Heritage Site. Upon completion, that highly environmentally sensitive project was recognized with an Emerald Award from the Alberta Emerald Foundation, which celebrates environmental leadership and excellence within our province.
Meanwhile, up in the oilsands, North American continued to grow substantially. The Company signed numerous long-term contracts with the country’s biggest energy providers, including a massive 10-year overburden hauling agreement at CNRL that saw North American move twice the amount of earth that was hauled during the construction of the Panama Canal.
